Chanting Poorna Brahma Stotram is in itself a meditation — a Dhyaanam upon the Complete, the Supreme. This hymn beautifully describes the divine form of the Lord of the Universe. By chanting this stotram dedicatedly, the ever-captivating form of the Lord dwells in our minds and we feel the presence of the Supreme Divine in and around us every moment.
पूर्णचन्द्रमुखं नीलेन्दुरूपम् उद्भाषितं देवं दिव्यंस्वरूपम् पूर्णं त्वं स्वर्णं त्वं वर्णं त्वं देवम् पिता माता बंधु त्वमेव सर्वम् जगन्नाथ स्वामी भक्तभावप्रेमी नमाम्यहम् जगन्नाथ स्वामी भक्तभावप्रेमी नमाम्यहम् ॥१॥
Poornachandramukham nilenduroopam Udbhaashitam devam divyam swaroopam Poornam twam svarnam twam varnam twam devam Pitaa maataa bandhu twameva sarvam Jagannaathaswaamee bhaktabhaavapremee namaamyaham Jagannaathaswaamee bhaktabhaavapremee namaamyaham ॥1॥
Whose face is like the full moon, whose colour is like that of a blue jewel, O Deva whose divine appearance brightly shines through — you are complete, you are more precious than gold, you are the source of all colours, you are my father, mother, friend and everything. To you O Lord of the Universe, the lover of the Bhava of His devotees, I bow!
कुञ्चितकेशं च संचितवेशम् वर्तुलस्थूलनयनं ममेशम् पिनाकनीनिका नयनकोशम् आकृष्टओष्ठं च उत्कृष्टश्वासम् जगन्नाथ स्वामी भक्तभावप्रेमी नमाम्यहम् जगन्नाथ स्वामी भक्तभावप्रेमी नमाम्यहम् ॥२॥
Kunchitakesham cha sanchitavesham Vartulasthoola nayanam mamesham Pinaaka neenaakaa nayanakosham Aakrishta oshtham cha utkrishta shwaasam Jagannaathaswaamee bhaktabhaavapremee namaamyaham Jagannaathaswaamee bhaktabhaavapremee namaamyaham ॥2॥
The one with beautiful curly hair, whose appearance is like a collection of all beautiful appearances, and who has big round eyes, is my controller, my Lord. O Lord, you have big eyeballs, beautiful big round pupils, and stunning lips — your transcendental breath is the life force in all living beings in the universe. नीलाचले चंचलया सहितम् आदिदेव निश्चलानंदे स्थितम् आनन्दकन्दं विश्वविन्दुचंद्रम् नंदनन्दनं त्वं इन्द्रस्य इन्द्रम् जगन्नाथस्वामी भक्तभावप्रेमी नमाम्यहम् जगन्नाथ स्वामी भक्तभावप्रेमी नमाम्यहम् ॥३॥
Neelaachale chanchalayaa sahitam Aadideva nishchalaanande sthitam Aanandakandam vishwavinduchandram Nandanandanam twam indrasya indram Jagannaathaswaamee bhaktabhaavapremee namaamyaham Jagannaathaswaamee bhaktabhaavapremee namaamyaham ॥3॥
In the Nilachala Dham, O Adideva, you reside in unshakeable, constant bliss with Mata Lakshmi, and you are the root of all bliss. Just like the moon brightly shines through, you shine as the centre of the universe (Govind). You, the son of Nanda, are the best among the best. सृष्टि स्थिति प्रलय सर्वमूळम् सूक्ष्माति सुक्ष्मं त्वं स्थूलाति स्थूलम् कांतिमयानन्तम् अन्तिमप्रान्तम् प्रशांतकुन्तळं ते मूर्तिमंतम् जगन्नाथ स्वामी भक्तभावप्रेमी नमाम्यहम् जगन्नाथ स्वामी भक्तभावप्रेमी नमाम्यहम् ॥४॥
Srushti sthiti pralaya sarvamoolam Sookshmaatisukshmam twam sthoolaatisthoolam Kaantimayaanantam antimapraantam Prashaantakuntalam te moortimantam Jagannaathaswaamee bhaktabhaavapremee namaamyaham Jagannaathaswaamee bhaktabhaavapremee namaamyaham ॥4॥
You are the root of all creation, maintenance and destruction. You are the subtlest among everything subtle, and the grossest among everything gross. You have infinite effulgence and you are the last point of the universe. Your curly hairs rest calmly on your cheek. You are the embodiment of beauty. To the Lord of the universe, the lover of the Bhava of His devotees, I bow!
यज्ञ तप वेद ज्ञानात् अतीतम् भावप्रेमछंदे सदाविशित्वम् शुद्धात् शुद्धं त्वं च पूर्णात् पूर्णम् कृष्णमेघतुल्यम् अमूल्यवर्णम् जगन्नाथ स्वामी भक्तभावप्रेमी नमाम्यहम् जगन्नाथ स्वामी भक्तभावप्रेमी नमाम्यहम् ॥५॥
Yagya tapa veda gyaanaat ateetam Bhaavapremachhande sadaavashitwam Shuddhaat shuddham twam cha poornaat poornam Krishnameghatulyam amoolyavarnam Jagannaathaswaamee bhaktabhaavapremee namaamyaham Jagannaathaswaamee bhaktabhaavapremee namaamyaham ॥5॥
You are beyond yagya, penance, vedas, and gyana — one can only reach you through single-pointed, unflinching devotion. Although nothing can bind you, you are forever bound by the pure love of your devotees. You are the purest of the pure, the most complete among complete. Your appearance is like dark clouds, your colour is priceless. To the Lord of the universe, the lover of the Bhava of His devotees, I bow!
विश्वप्रकाशं सर्वक्लेशनाशम् मन बुद्धि प्राण श्वासप्रश्वासम् मत्स्य कूर्म नृसिंह वामनः त्वम् वराह राम अनंत अस्तित्वम् जगन्नाथ स्वामी भक्तभावप्रेमी नमाम्यहम् जगन्नाथ स्वामी भक्तभावप्रेमी नमाम्यहम् ॥६॥
Vishwaprakaasham sarvakleshanaasham Mana buddhi praana shwaasaprashwaasam Matsya koorma nrisimha vaamanah twam Varaaha raama ananta astitwam Jagannaathaswaamee bhaktabhaavapremee namaamyaham Jagannaathaswaamee bhaktabhaavapremee namaamyaham ॥6॥
You are the light of the universe, the destroyer of all pains and sufferings. You are my mind, my intellect, my life force — you are the breath that goes in and out. You have infinite forms: Matsya, Kurma, Narsingha, Vamana, Varaha, Rama. To the Lord of the universe, the lover of the Bhava of His devotees, I bow!
ध्रुवस्य विष्णुः त्वं भक्तस्य प्राणम् राधापति देव हे आर्तत्राणम् सर्वज्ञान सारं लोक आधारम् भावसंचारम् अभावसंहारम् जगन्नाथ स्वामी भक्तभावप्रेमी नमाम्यहम् जगन्नाथ स्वामी भक्तभावप्रेमी नमाम्यहम् ॥७॥
Dhruvasya vishnuh twam bhaktasya praanam Raadhaapati deva hey aartatraanam Sarva gyaana saaram loka aadhaaram Bhaavasanchaaram abhaava samhaaram Jagannaathaswaamee bhaktabhaavapremee namaamyaham Jagannaathaswaamee bhaktabhaavapremee namaamyaham ॥7॥
For Dhruva you are Vishnu; for your devotees you are their life force. You are the beloved of Radha, the rescuer of the ones who are suffering. You are the essence of all knowledge, the base that holds all the lokas. You infuse Bhava — love — and destroy Abhava — the absence of love. To the Lord of the universe, the lover of the Bhava of His devotees, I bow!
बलदेव सुभद्रा पार्श्वे स्थितम् सुदर्शन संगे नित्य शोभितम् नमामि नमामि सर्वांगे देवम् हे पूर्णब्रह्म हरि मम सर्वम् जगन्नाथ स्वामी भक्तभावप्रेमी नमाम्यहम् जगन्नाथ स्वामी भक्तभावप्रेमी नमाम्यहम् ॥८॥
Baladeva Subhadraa paarshve sthitam Sudarshana sange nitya shobhitam Namaami namaami sarvaange devam Hey Poornabrahma Hari mama sarvam Jagannaathaswaamee bhaktabhaavapremee namaamyaham Jagannaathaswaamee bhaktabhaavapremee namaamyaham ॥8॥
You are adorned beside Baladeva, Subhadra and Sudarshana, and you look ever graceful in their company. O Lord, my salutation to you from every part of my body. O Hari, you are the only Brahma, the Supreme, and you are my everything. To you O Lord of the universe, the lover of the Bhava of His devotees, I bow!
कृष्णदासहृदि भाव संचारम् सदा कुरु स्वामी तव किंकरम् तव कृपा विन्दु हि एक सारम् अन्यथा हे नाथ सर्व असारम् जगन्नाथ स्वामी भक्तभावप्रेमी नमाम्यहम् जगन्नाथ स्वामी भक्तभावप्रेमी नमाम्यहम् ॥०॥
Krishnadaasa hridi bhaavasanchaaram Sadaa kuru swaamee tawa kinkaram Tawa kripaa vindu hi eka saaram Anyathaa hey naatha sarva asaaram Jagannaathaswaamee bhaktabhaavapremee namaamyaham Jagannaathaswaamee bhaktabhaavapremee namaamyaham ॥0॥
You are the one who infuses feelings in the heart of Krishnadasa. O Lord, may you keep infusing such feelings — even if I lose everything, the feeling of you should not fade away. O my Lord, I am your servant. A single drop of your grace is the essence of my life; without it, everything is useless. To you O Lord of the universe, the lover of the Bhava of His devotees, I bow!
